What is Plasticity Retention Index Testing

The Plasticity Retention Index (PRI) is a key indicator of natural rubber quality, measuring resistance to thermal oxidative degradation. The test consists of an initial plasticity measurement (P0) on an unaged specimen, followed by a second measurement (P30) after ageing for 30 minutes at 140°C ± 0.5°C using the Wallace O14 Ageing Chamber. PRI is calculated from the ratio of these values, providing a clear indication of material stability.

Plasticity measurements are also widely used in industries such as silicone processing and medical materials. As a globally recognised standard for natural rubber quality, PRI testing makes the Wallace P14 Plastimeter an essential tool for both producers and processors.
